Ober Yahr Electrolysis is excited to spotlight Mina Mees, one of our electrologists at the Squirrel Hill location.
Mina brings previous experience in the field of electrolysis, having worked as an electrologist before the pandemic. When COVID hit, she stepped away from the workforce and retired. But at the start of 2025, Mina decided it was time to re-enter the field and we’re so glad she chose to do that with Ober Yahr Electrolysis.
Her return to electrolysis is rooted in both skill and heart. Mina understands the technical side of permanent hair removal, but she also brings something just as important to the treatment room: warmth, patience, and genuine curiosity about the people she meets.

Returning to Electrolysis with Heart
Mina often jokes that she loves her job for “selfish reasons.” Being around people, she says, helps keep her sane.
For Mina, electrolysis is not just about removing hair. It is about connection. She enjoys the stories her clients bring with them — the funny ones, the vulnerable ones, the everyday updates, and the deeply personal moments that can happen when someone feels safe and seen.
That human connection is one of the reasons Mina returned to work. She enjoys being part of her clients’ journeys, whether they are coming in for cosmetic reasons, medical reasons, gender-affirming care, or simply because they are ready to feel more comfortable in their own skin.
A Motherly Perspective on Gender-Affirming Care
Mina also brings a unique and compassionate perspective to her work with clients who are transitioning.
As the mother of a trans daughter, Mina understands that gender-affirming electrolysis can be about much more than hair removal. It can be part of feeling more aligned, more confident, and more at home in one’s body.
Her personal experience gives her a motherly insight into the emotional side of this work. She approaches clients with care, respect, and an understanding that every person’s journey is different. Mina strives to create a treatment space where people feel comfortable, supported, and never judged.
Meet Bea, Mina’s Favorite Little Chaos Companion
Outside of work, Mina loves spending time with her dog, Bea, a cairn border terrier whom Mina lovingly describes as “dumb and neurotic.”
Bea may be a little chaotic, but she is very loved. And much like Mina’s clients, she brings plenty of personality and stories into Mina’s life.
