Electrolysis is a safe, FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal. It works by using a tiny, carefully controlled electric current to destroy hair follicles at the root, preventing them from producing new hair. This technique is ideal for individuals seeking a lasting solution to unwanted hair.
We specialize in treating smaller areas, such as the face, underarms, and bikini line, as well as providing pre-operative genital electrolysis. Electrolysis is a versatile treatment and can be performed on nearly any area where you want permanent hair removal, making it ideal for precise and sensitive areas.
Yes, electrolysis is effective for all hair and skin types. Unlike other hair removal methods that might only work on certain hair colors or skin tones, electrolysis can remove light, dark, coarse, or fine hair on any skin color. This makes it an ideal solution for people with a variety of hair and skin types.
Yes, electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method. It works by destroying the hair follicle so it can no longer grow hair. This is why the FDA considers it the only truly permanent hair removal solution. However, it will take multiple sessions to ensure all hair follicles in the area have been treated.
We offer both thermolysis and blend methods of electrolysis. Thermolysis uses heat to quickly destroy the hair follicle, while the blend method combines heat and a chemical reaction for a more thorough effect. These options allow us to tailor your treatment based on your unique hair type and removal needs, ensuring the most effective and comfortable results.
Treatment length varies depending on the size of the area being treated and the density of hair. Small areas like the upper lip may take only a few minutes, while larger areas such as the genitals or chest could require multiple hours over several sessions. During your consultation, we’ll provide a clearer idea of how long your treatment may take.
Our offices do not have receptionists, so just come on in and have a seat. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your hair removal goals, review your medical history, and assess the areas you’d like to treat. We’ll also explain how electrolysis works, what you can expect during and after treatment, and suggest a customized treatment plan. This is a great time to ask questions and ensure that electrolysis is the right choice for you.
Electrolysis is generally well-tolerated, but comfort levels can vary. To help manage any discomfort, you may apply a topical numbing cream before your appointment. Taking over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen, can also help. We’ll discuss pain management options during your consultation so that you feel as comfortable as possible.
Electrolysis is typically considered a cosmetic procedure and is not usually covered by insurance. However, some insurance providers may reimburse costs if the electrolysis is deemed medically necessary, such as for pre-operative hair removal or for treating facial hair related to gender dysphoria. In these cases, coverage usually comes in the form of reimbursement, meaning you would pay for the treatments upfront and then submit receipts to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. We recommend contacting your provider for specific details on eligibility and requirements.
To prepare for your appointment, come with a clean, makeup-free face if we’re treating facial areas. It’s also helpful to have at least 48 hours of hair growth in the treatment area so that your electrologist can target the hair effectively. Avoid waxing or plucking for at least two weeks before your initial appointment— shaving is fine, as long as there’s visible hair for treatment. We also recommend avoiding caffeine on the day of your session, as it can increase sensitivity.
While undergoing electrolysis, it’s essential to avoid tweezing or waxing the treated area. Both methods remove the hair follicle temporarily, making it impossible for electrolysis to effectively target and permanently destroy it. Shaving is fine, as it leaves the follicle intact and allows the electrologist to treat the hair at its root. For the best results, we recommend only shaving between sessions and allowing visible hair growth before each appointment.
After treatment, your skin may be slightly red or sensitive. To soothe the area, apply a cold compress if needed, and use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer. Avoid sun exposure, tanning, and any exfoliating or harsh skincare products while your skin looks and feel irritated. Keeping the area clean and hydrated will help with healing.
Tipping is not required but is appreciated if you’re happy with the service and results. Much like in other personal care services, a tip is a way to show appreciation. Gratuity is never expected.
